How the Yacht got its name

La Pinta is the Spanish name of Abingdon Island, which is located to the northwestern part of the Galapagos Islands, where the famous "lonesome George" giant tortoise resides. Lonesome George is the world’s most celebrated tortoise, more so because he is the last surviving individual of an otherwise extinct race. He is depicted in the logo of the Galapagos National.
